Learned From Stupidity

There are some things that we really don’t have to learn from stupidity, but we sometimes do. In this instance, it had to do with the demonic realm.

Dudleytown rests in the woods along this town, Cornwall, CT

Approximately six years ago, my husband and I thought it would be an adventure (for lack of a better word) to visit Dudleytown, CT. For those of you who are unfamiliar with Dudleytown, it was a very old, small village that later became a “ghost town” in the 1800s, nestled in the northwestern region of Connecticut, of which, it has been labeled as haunted, and for good reason. Some even believe there’s a portal somewhere in the heart of it.

Being a Christian couple, we should have known better.  I mean, we did, but we should have never even dabbled in the idea of visiting such a place for amusement. God tells us to stay away from that kind of stuff (Eph. 5:11).  Well, here’s what happened:

Ed and I decided to take a nice little drive up to Dudleytown to see what all the hype was about. What we planned to do when we got there? We hadn’t thought that far, yet.

It was a beautiful day, and the sky was blue with patches of bulky clouds.  When we reached its town of Cornwall (Dudleytown rest in this town), we attempted to locate the Dudleytown sign, but to no avail. We drove in circles around the area for about 15 minutes trying to find the right place. Finally, we parked our car where the GPS led us but had no idea where to go next (since there was still no sign).

So, we took out our phones and did more research, all to find that, once we reached a certain point, we had to get out of our car and walk the rest of the way through the eerie woods, in order to get to our point of interest. At that point, we said, “Peace out!“, did a u-turn, and headed back home.  But before we left town, Ed and I decided to park at a vacant motel with zero cars in the parking lot, to stretch out our legs from the ride.

When we got out, we couldn’t believe how clean the air was.  It was literally a “breath of fresh air”. Across from us stood nothing but tall pine trees. But, there was a feeling we just couldn’t shake: there was an indescribable void…a spiritual void. It was very strange.  That’s it. Nothing else.

We left, thinking no more of it. I know you were probably expecting a little more, but just keep reading a few more paragraphs.

When we got home that night, I had a nightmare. Now, I have to say that I never get nightmares, unless I or someone staying under our same roof knowingly or unknowingly invites something in that has to do with horror, the occult, anything pagan, or if they had recently dabbled in anything of like manner.  All of which are demonic. As a matter of fact, around two years ago, we had someone stay with us who absolutely loves horror movies, and he knew how we felt about horror movies. I warned him that if he were to watch any of the such in our house, that God would let me know, and because our house is so absent of those types of things, we are spiritually very sensitive to that stuff once it manifests. Anyway, that same night he stayed with us, I dreamt that I got up out of bed to head to the dimly lit hallway, but a tall, dark figured man was standing at my door. In shock, I tried to push by him, but I was unable, and he continually nudged me forward, trying to overpower me as I yelled for help. The dream ended.

The very next day, as we took a ride to Gillette Castle, I asked the person staying with us if he watched a scary movie in our house last night.  He said, “Yes, I did. Why?” I explained to him that I had a nightmare the previous night and that I never get nightmares. He wanted to know what happened in the dream, but I told him I didn’t want to say at the moment because our children were in the car.

A little while after,  he mentioned that he had a nightmare as well. I asked him what his dream was, and he said, “I dreamed I was on the sofa watching my [horror] movie, and I heard you yell “help” from your bedroom because someone was attacking you.”

After I told him my dream, he got the “heebie-jeebies” and was”shell-shocked”! God confirmed it for me like he always does (“God has spoken once, twice have I heard this,”-Psalm 62:11).

Anyway, back to the original story: The night we came home from our attempt to visit Dudleytown, I dreamt that we were in or around that same area where we parked our car to stretch our legs at the motel.  It was around dusk, my husband and I were standing outside of our car when a handful of teenagers came walking toward us with chains and torches. We were both scared. Then, the ringleader asked, “What are you doing here?”. But, before we could answer, they threw a torch to our car! It set fire and blew up!  Then, they warned, “Don’t EVER come back here again!”

Okay, I think it’s safe to say, “I got the hint.” All that did for me was confirm that, yes, that area is haunted. And I just left it at that.

But, it wasn’t until this morning that I was on the phone with my friend, Diana, and we were having a quick discussion about how many satanic rituals are done in the woods, and Dudleytown came up.  I retold her the dream I had after attempting to visit that place, and nonchalantly, she said, “Well, yeah.  They told you to “never come back” because of what you brought with you.  You came with your angels and the Holy Spirit. They can’t take that.” Wow!  I hadn’t even thought of that. Boy, was she ever right!

I Saw God Last Night: Whoever Said He's Dead, Flat Out Lied!

The satan knows who you are if you’re a child of God (humans are His finest creation, but all are not His children- John 1:12): Remember when Paul was casting out demons in the name of Jesus and a vagabond saw and tried doing the same? Well, here’s what happened: Scripture says that the demon that was inside of the man who the vagabond was trying to cast out, said to the vagabond, “Jesus I know, and Paul I know; but who are you?” Then the demon jumped on him, stripped him naked, and beat him silly! (Acts 19:11-16).  We are known and are a threat to satan.

Long story short: Even though I played the fool and did something I wasn’t supposed to do, God was still with me—posing a threat to the darkness.  Satan’s got his spiritual warriors, but God’s is far bigger and tougher!

Needless to say, with this, I have obtained humility and wisdom—Godly wisdom. And with that being said, I will never again attempt to amuse myself with anything that’s so unholy as horror, the occult, or anything pagan, again.

Note: I do not recommend visiting Dudleytown.

Just for the record, this was not stupidity but ignorance. As has been said, ignorance is curable, but stupidity is terminal . . . as the fellow putting a knife into a plugged in toaster is about to find out! 😱
