What I Took Home From Watching the Movie Harriett

A few weeks ago, my husband and I took our girls to see the movie, Harriett, and it was PHENOMENAL! Our daughters call Harriett Tubman a “true action hero”! I appreciate how the film ingrained in the fact that every path Tubman took on the Underground Railroad was instinctively led by the Holy Spirit and how she never went anywhere without getting on her knees to listen for God’s instruction. Her faith alone converted so many!

“Fear is the enemy. Trust God” is seemingly the encouraging speech that a pastor gave her that set her on the start of her journey. She fought for what she KNEW was right, not what she FELT was right. Her KNOWING what was right ran parallel with the Word of God. Those who opposed her FELT as if they were right but their feelings contradicted God’s Word. Much like today, we can evidently see those calling good evil and evil good (Isaiah 5:20) in almost every aspect of life, but all of which is based off of FEELING and not KNOWING. This is why each and every one of us much learn to develop a close relationship with Jesus Christ to the point where we KNOW what we do, think and stand for is correct. It’s an impossibility for Jesus to lead us astray.
Had Harriett Tubman went by her own logic and not listened for Holy Spirit on her numerous quests, her legacy today would have been non-existent. Every one of us has the same ability to leave behind a phenomenal legacy that’ll last for the ages, but it starts with a closer walk with God. He’s NOT afar off. He’s right here. “Be strong and courageous; do not be frightened or dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go” (Joshua 1:9).
